Black-Capped Caique
💚 Meet Jinx – The Black-Capped Caique Who Steals Hearts (and Sometimes Hair)
Jinx hatched in August 2017, and like most caiques, she’s packed with personality, mischief, and sweetness all at once. She’s incredibly social and loves people, especially her favorite human, who she completely adores. She’ll lay on her back in his hand for head scratches, toe tickles, and all the affection she can soak up.
Jinx is curious and clownish, the kind of bird who brings instant joy to any room. She loves exploring, showing off, and sometimes getting herself tangled up in long hair just for fun. (She’s been known to grab a handful and hang on like a determined toddler!) A calm, confident “let go” usually convinces her that playtime’s over.
She’s gentle overall, even her “warning” nips are soft, and she’s done beautifully with multiple people in the home. Her playful energy makes her a great fit for a family that enjoys interaction and laughter.
Jinx loves to bathe and takes showers with her favorite people. Her absolute favorite part is when someone makes a little “pool” of water in their hands so she can splash around. She also enjoys using a Bird Butler for easy access to fresh water all day.
Her favorite toys are small wooden chew toys like the Super Bird Creations Mini Triangle Teaser, and she’s known to “mimic” other birds just to stir things up. (She’s a little instigator — in the cutest way.) She can get a bit shrill when music’s playing, usually because she wants to join the performance.
She says “peekaboo,” “get you,” and “step up,” and her vocabulary seems to grow with attention and encouragement. Treat-wise, she’s a big fan of Christine’s Chop Shop’s Pomegranate and Carrot Cake Bombs, plus pecans, walnuts, and pine nuts for special rewards.
Jinx was DNA-sexed as female and has never laid eggs. She’s confident, comical, and endlessly endearing, the perfect mix of sweetness and chaos that makes Caiques so unforgettable.insert bio

***Information that is universal to every bird:
1) Birds are typically not family animals. They usually choose a favorite and at best you can expect them to tolerate everyone else.
2) Birds are not great with kids, dogs, other birds, and are not cuddly with everyone, nor can they really be trained to be. Birds are flock animals, who are social creatures that need to be in a communal area where they can see the rest of the family, or you may experience serious vocalization and behavior problems. We’ve never met a bird who is great with kids, but we have met kids who are respectful of birds.
3) Birds bite. But, you shouldn’t “take the bite”. If you’re getting bit, you haven’t earned the trust of the bird, and are pushing the bird past his/her limits. You must figure out what the bird needs, and make what you’re asking of the bird more attractive than what they are already doing.
4) Birds are not “dominance” based creatures. Your only option for birds is to earn their trust. If they are, say…on top of a cage and don’t want to come down, that is where they feel safest, not a dominance thing. They are not trying to exert dominance, they just don’t want to come down. Your job as a parrot owner is to figure out what you can do to help them trust you, and whatever you are asking to be more attractive than what they are already doing.
5) NEVER send money over the internet for adoption with any individual or organization for the adoption of an animal you have not met in person. That is almost always a scam.
