KEVIN
Kevin
Green Quaker (Monk)
This is Kevin.
This is what we know about him:
Kevin is a turd. It’s true. All quakers are. It’s literally their job. So much so, that they are banned in several states. So, first things first, you must be able to prove you live in a state that allows Quakers to be eligible to adopt this little adorable turd.
So, it’s a good thing we love turds here at B&B, because we’ve gotten to know Kevin pretty well, and we think he’s just the kind of little turd you’re going to adore.
Kevin was found over on the east side of Michigan several years ago, and no one claimed him. The family who found him kept him for a while, but as non-bird people, they didn’t really “get” him. (Plus, for non bird people, quakers being quakers really do make them seem a little evil.)
Kevin ended up being given to an INCREDIBLE human who just took amazing care of him. She regularly vetted him, she introduced him to veggies, and fruits, and a proper diet. She gave him enrichment, and he has just got the best little personality.
Kevin’s favorite things are his baby blanket for which he appreciates being scooped up, sitting on your lap and being preened, sitting on your shoulder and pressing kisses into your cheek while purring.
In his cage, his favorite things are actively trying to kill you for touching his things, which include a collection of Moroccas and rattles, and his toys.
That’s right, as a shock to all the world, Kevin, a Quaker is cage aggressive. The workaround is his blanket to scoop him, and then he behaves pretty well.
He is nippy, and if you try to move too fast with him, he will for sure nail you. After you earn his trust, he’s pretty great, and I hardly ever get nailed by him any more. :)
Age: 8ish?
Sex: DNA Male
Prefers: Needs a female caretaker.
Other Bird Aggressive? No.
Cage Aggressive? Is the sky blue? Do bears, in fact, crap in the woods? He’s a quaker. If you don’t know this basic fact about quakers, you haven’t done enough research.
Adoption Fee: $400
Cage Available: Affordable used cages available to purchase starting at $100.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Quakers are illegal to possess in some states. Make sure your state is not one of them before applying for him.
***Information that is universal to every bird:
1) Birds are typically not family animals. They usually choose a favorite and at best you can expect them to tolerate everyone else.
2) Birds are not great with kids, dogs, other birds, and are not cuddly with everyone, nor can they really be trained to be. Birds are flock animals, who are social creatures that need to be in a communal area where they can see the rest of the family, or you may eperience serious vocalization and behavior problems. We’ve never met a bird who is great with kids, but we have met kids who are respectful of birds.
3) Birds bite. But, you shouldn’t “take the bite”. If you’re getting bit, you haven’t earned the trust of the bird, and are pushing the bird past his/her limits. You must figure out what the bird needs, and make what you’re asking of the bird more attractive than what they are already doing.
4) Birds are not “dominance” based creatures. Your only option for birds is to earn their trust. If they are, say…on top of a cage and don’t want to come down, that is where they feel safest, not a dominance thing. They are not trying to exert dominance, they just don’t want to come down. Your job as a parrot owner is to figure out what you can do to help them trust you, and whatever you are asking to be more attractive than what they are already doing.
5) NEVER send money over the internet for adoption with any individual or organization for the adoption of an animal you have not met in person. That is almost always a scam.
