Species

Kiwi is a young Pineapple Turquoise Green Cheek Conure with a big personality and an even bigger heart. At just under two years old, he is still very much a baby who is learning, growing, and discovering the world around him. His coloring is a beautiful blend of muted turquoise, blue, red, and gray, and his expressive nature makes him a joy to watch.

Kiwi loves baths, dancing, enrichment toys, and anything he can shred. He enjoys playing in your hair, giving lots of kisses, and proudly saying his own name. Seeds are a favorite treat, and he thrives on interaction with people he trusts. While he can be picky about his people at first, once he bonds, his affectionate and playful side shines through.

Like many young conures, Kiwi has his preferences and boundaries. He can be wary of loud noises, sudden movements, and new foods, and he does not enjoy fingers entering his cage. He is generally happy to be handled, especially when hanging out on a shoulder, and does well with stepping up when he is comfortable and in the mood. Because his flight feathers were clipped early on, he is still learning how to fully use his wings and is working on confident landings.

Kiwi does not pluck and has no ongoing health concerns, though he was previously treated for an upper respiratory infection and responded to veterinary care. He would do best in a patient, attentive home that understands young conure behavior and is willing to continue helping him build confidence at his own pace.

Kiwi is a wonderful, well-tempered bird with so much potential. With time, patience, and consistency, he is expected to bond deeply and thrive in a loving forever home. His current family is also willing to send his cage, toys, and remaining food to help him transition smoothly.

***Information that is universal to every bird:

1) Birds are typically not family animals. They usually choose a favorite and at best you can expect them to tolerate everyone else.

2) Birds are not great with kids, dogs, other birds, and are not cuddly with everyone, nor can they really be trained to be. Birds are flock animals, who are social creatures that need to be in a communal area where they can see the rest of the family, or you may eperience serious vocalization and behavior problems. We’ve never met a bird who is great with kids, but we have met kids who are respectful of birds.

3) Birds bite. But, you shouldn’t “take the bite”. If you’re getting bit, you haven’t earned the trust of the bird, and are pushing the bird past his/her limits. You must figure out what the bird needs, and make what you’re asking of the bird more attractive than what they are already doing.

4) Birds are not “dominance” based creatures. Your only option for birds is to earn their trust. If they are, say…on top of a cage and don’t want to come down, that is where they feel safest, not a dominance thing. They are not trying to exert dominance, they just don’t want to come down. Your job as a parrot owner is to figure out what you can do to help them trust you, and whatever you are asking to be more attractive than what they are already doing.

5) NEVER send money over the internet for adoption with any individual or organization for the adoption of an animal you have not met in person. That is almost always a scam.
