Moe

Blue and Gold Macaw

This is what we know:

Meet Moe 💙💛

Species: Blue & Gold Macaw
Age: 32 Years
Sex: Male (DNA Sexed)
Adoption Fee: $1,000

Moe is one of those macaws that reminds you why people fall in love with these incredible birds.

At 32 years old, Moe has already lived a full life, but he's still got plenty of love left to give. He came to Birds and Beaks simply because life changed for the family who loved him. After children entered the picture, they realized Moe wasn't getting the time and attention he deserved and made the difficult decision to find him a home where he could once again be someone's cherished companion.

Moe is a gentle giant. He enjoys spending time on your shoulder or arm, loves fresh and dried bananas, and absolutely lights up when he gets to spend time outdoors enjoying the sunshine.

While he prefers men, Moe has been kind to everyone in his home. He's described as timid around young children, but remarkably, his family reports that he's never been a serious biter. If he's uncomfortable, he's much more likely to give a gentle pinch or simply move away rather than escalate the situation.

Like many parrots, Moe has some feather-plucking on his body. Feather condition is only one small part of a bird's story, and many parrots with a history of plucking go on to live incredibly happy, enriching lives with families who understand that love isn't measured by perfect feathers.

Moe would thrive in a home that can once again make him part of the family. He enjoys being included, appreciates one-on-one attention, and would likely love a home where he can spend time safely outdoors when Michigan weather cooperates.

Blue & Gold Macaws are intelligent, affectionate, and incredibly social birds. They aren't just pets—they're lifelong companions who form deep relationships with the people they trust.

If you've been looking for a gentle macaw with a sweet disposition, Moe may be exactly the bird you've been waiting for.

***Information that is universal to every bird:

1) Birds are typically not family animals. They usually choose a favorite and at best you can expect them to tolerate everyone else.

2) Birds are not great with kids, dogs, other birds, and are not cuddly with everyone, nor can they really be trained to be. Birds are flock animals, who are social creatures that need to be in a communal area where they can see the rest of the family, or you may eperience serious vocalization and behavior problems. We’ve never met a bird who is great with kids, but we have met kids who are respectful of birds.

3) Birds bite. But, you shouldn’t “take the bite”. If you’re getting bit, you haven’t earned the trust of the bird, and are pushing the bird past his/her limits. You must figure out what the bird needs, and make what you’re asking of the bird more attractive than what they are already doing.

4) Birds are not “dominance” based creatures. Your only option for birds is to earn their trust. If they are, say…on top of a cage and don’t want to come down, that is where they feel safest, not a dominance thing. They are not trying to exert dominance, they just don’t want to come down. Your job as a parrot owner is to figure out what you can do to help them trust you, and whatever you are asking to be more attractive than what they are already doing.

5) NEVER send money over the internet for adoption with any individual or organization for the adoption of an animal you have not met in person. That is almost always a scam.
