Meet Zelda

“What’s up?”

Zelda would like to know. Repeatedly. Sometimes while popping her head around to check whether you’re paying attention.

She’s a Blue and Gold Macaw with a lot of personality and a strong interest in being adored. Zelda wants your attention. Mirror her antics and treat her like your bestie—because she is. When she’s comfortable with you, she enjoys your company and a good head scratch.

Zelda has been enjoying her time with me. She wants someone who will include her, pay attention to her, and join in the fun. She has tended to enjoy women’s company here, but getting to know the actual person matters.

She needs a home prepared for macaw volume, space, enrichment, and daily companionship.

Watch her video. Living with Zelda appears to involve a considerable amount of audience participation.

How she got here

Zelda came to us through a transfer from another rescue, and we don’t know her age. We’re getting to know her and helping her find someone who will give her the time and companionship she needs.

Think you might be a good fit for Zelda?

How it works: Apply online → interview → home walkthrough video and approval gets you an invite to the rescue → visit and handling in Battle Creek, MI. and, if all goes well, you’ll be approved to adopt that day.

The honest stuff (true for every bird):

  • Birds usually pick a favorite person and tolerate everyone else.

  • They’re not great with kids or dogs, and they need to be where the family is (not in a segregated room away from everyone).

  • Birds bite. If you’re getting bit, you haven’t earned their trust yet.

  • It’s about trust, not dominance.

Scam warning: Never send money for an animal you haven’t met in person. We never ship birds.
